Lizzo has arrived at the 2022 Met Gala, so everyone else can go home now.
The “Rumors” singer walked the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art decked out in a cut-out corset dress by Thom Browne, complete with a voluminous black coat with golden detailing worthy of this year’s “Gilded Glamour” theme. I’m sorry, walked is the wrong word.
Ascended is a more fitting descriptor for the way Lizzo owned the red carpet with her golden flute in hand. And let’s talk about those hands for a second. Not only did Lizzo play the flute on the red carpet while wearing a corset, but she did so while wearing a set of corkscrew black-and-gold nails by artist Eri Ishizu. I mean….
And let’s see the look without the coat:
How about a closer look at that manicure?
Lizzo even showed off her flute-playing skills for Glamour…at least until she saw Kim Kardashian arrive at the Met Gala. “That’s Kim Kardashian, y’all. Fuck,” Lizzo said as she spotted the reality star walking the carpet in the most expensive dress in the world.

Honestly, this is a completely valid response. Kardashian attended the Met Gala wearing Marilyn Monroe’s actual “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” beaded gown. The dress, originally designed by Jean Louis, was sold to Ripley’s Believe It or Not in 2016 for nearly $5 million by Julien’s Auction. You can see the moment in all its glory here.
The 2022 Met Gala was being cohosted by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The “Gilded Glamour” theme, in honor of the Met Costume Institute’s “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” exhibition, served as a lavish follow-up to last year’s exhibition, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which was postponed to September 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both parts of the exhibit will be open to the public from May 7 until September 5, 2022.
