Priyanka Chopra Jonas understood Victoria’s Secret’s latest assignment.
You may recall that back in 2021 Victoria’s Secret made the announcement that it would be clipping its Angels’ showgirl wings for good. The brand (which came under increased scrutiny following the #MeToo movement) had been mired in various allegations of workplace harassment. But since undergoing a visual and ethical rebrand, the label has been plotting a “reimagined” spectacle to rival its once-iconic fashion shows.
Airing as a feature-length film on Amazon Prime later this month, the Manhattan Center in New York played host to a star-studded premiere last night. A pantheon of new and old faces walked the red carpet—among them Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, and EmRata—each one giving their own take on what an Angel might dress like in 2023. Priyanka Chopra Jonas opted for a nude-illusion column.
The traditional underwear-plus-stilettos formula seems to have died out, and in its place came a less provocative idea of sex appeal. Chopra’s dress—sheer and intricately spangled, revealing a high-waist lingerie set beneath—was taken from Giambattista Valli’s fall 2023 collection.
