Kate Middleton Channels Princess Diana for Her First Royal Engagement as Princess of Wales

Catherine, Princess of Wales—the royal previously known as Kate Middleton and the Duchess of Cambridge—just wore a look that channeled her husband Prince Williams’ late mother, Princess Diana, who was Princess of Wales before her.

Middleton’s first royal engagement since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was a visit to Windsor Guidehall to thank those involved in the queen’s momentous funeral. And for the occasion she selected a black coatdress that mirrors one Princess Di wore in the 1980s. Middleton’s black coatdress is from Dolce & Gabbana, a brand with a well-documented problematic history, and features big gold buttons down the front and at the shoulders. Despite criticism for promoting Dolce & Gabbana, this isn’t the first time Middleton has worn this coat dress in public. (She does love a repeat ’fit.)
