Officine Générale opens second NYC store on Madison Avenue
French fashion brand Officine Générale has expanded its footprint in the United States with the opening of its second store in New York City.
Situated at 849 Madison Avenue, the 1,100-square-foot boutique, was designed by Officine Générale’s founder, Pierre Mahéo, and his wife, Nina Haverkamp. Collaborating with Paris-based architect Juliette Rubel, the trio aimed to bring to life the sophisticated and distinctive atmosphere that characterizes Officine Générale’s stores worldwide.
In particular, the store features vintage furniture and décor pieces personally selected by Mahéo and Haverkamp. Notable items include a black linear Trapeze table by Jean Prouvé, a vintage Formica table, and a selection of vintage wooden chairs, each with a unique mismatch design and an intriguing patina. The interior also showcases a colorful artwork painting by artist Michaël Schouflikir, along with wood and stone sculptures and vintage potteries, adding a distinctive personal touch.
Custom-made locally, the racks and shelving units in hammered steel and oak wood enhance the bespoke nature of the store. The floor tiles, a new addition, replace the light ash coat floor, while a concrete wall treatment brings a contemporary feel to the space, representing an evolution of the brand’s concept rather than a complete revolution.
The Madison Avenue store will offer a wide selection of both men’s and women’s collections, including the exclusive Daily Classics line available only in Officine Générale stores.
“We are excited to be expanding our presence in the U.S. market”, said Mahéo, “especially in a key location like Madison Avenue in NYC. Since the opening of our first US store in Soho, has been a dream of mine to also bring Officine Générale to a strategic uptown location”.
The Madison Avenue location joins Officine Générale’s diverse portfolio, which includes stores in Paris, London, Lyon, and Aix-en-Provence. With the U.S. standing as Officine Générale’s largest market outside of France, the expansion into key locations in New York and Los Angeles has long been a vision for Mahéo.
The first New York store, located on Lafayette Street in SoHo, made its debut in December 2021, followed by two store openings in Los Angeles at the beginning of 2023, in Palisades Village and Sycamore Avenue.
