Say it ain’t so. Blake Lively will not be attending the Met Gala this year, the actor confirmed on April 27.
During the grand reopening of Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue store, the actor told press that instead of gracing the carpet, she’ll be watching from home. According to , a reporter complimented Lively’s 2022 look, to which the actor replied, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.”
Lively and her husband of 10 years, Ryan Reynolds, have been staples at the event for years; the 35-year-old even served as a cochair at last year’s “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”–themed gala, arriving in a stunning Versace gown inspired by the the Statue of Liberty.

It’s giving Statue of Liberty.
Though her absence this year is obviously a bummer, it also makes sense given she and Reynolds just welcomed their fourth child together earlier this year. In fact, Lively only just made her red-carpet return this week.
For many people—especially those as dedicated as Lively—the prep process for the Met Gala can take months of planning and fittings. Not exactly a simple task when you’re balancing it with a newborn.
But don’t worry, fashion lovers, plenty of big names have already confirmed their attendance at the 2023 Met Gala. This year’s dress code is inspired by the theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Kim Kardashian recently shared a glimpse of her getting-ready process, which included a dip into the Chanel archives, but, more importantly, the late Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette, has been confirmed to walk the carpet. Without Blake Lively in attendance, my money’s on Choupette for most on-theme.
