Lily James gave us a good clue as to who she’d be wearing on the Met Gala 2022 red carpet when she wished Donatella Versace a happy birthday on her Instagram Stories, paying homage to the fashion icon.
And sure enough, James showed up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing Versace for this year’s theme, “Gilded Glamour.” It’s not the first time the Pam & Tommy actor has worn the luxury brand: She recently stunned in a sheer chiffon pink train, adorned with embroidered flowers, at this year’s Oscars. Let’s not forget the intricate Atelier Versace cutout silver minidress with a bubblegum pink blazer she wore to the Pam & Tommy.
But for the Met Gala, James chose a beaded, see-through Versace with an asymmetrical neckline, high slit, and platform silver heels. “I’m so lucky to wear [the dress],” she said on the red carpet. “It’s so exciting to be here, and to be here with Donatella, who I love so much.”
Take a look at this masterpiece below:
Here’s another look at the dress once James got inside the museum. The temperature was rather chilly, in the low 50s, so James said she was excited to get inside and get warm.
Just wait until you see the back of this dress.
For her makeup, Charlotte Tilbury makeup artist Valeria Ferreira used Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Serum Crystal Elixir, Collagen Superfusion Facial Oil, Magic Lip Oil, Charlotte’s Magic Cream, Hollywood Flawless Filter, Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder, Beautiful Skin Foundation, Hollywood Contour Wand in Light/Medium, Nudegasm Face Palette, Beauty Light Wand in Pillow Talk Medium, Eye Colour Magic Liner Duo in Super Blue, Pillow Talk Multi-Glow in Romance Light, Feline Flick in Panther, Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara, Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, and Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk.
James paired the look with slicked-back hair that was perfect with her new, darker hue. Celebrity hair stylist used Kenra Professional to achieve the look. “Lily wanted a sleek, contemporary Helmut Newton x mermaid look,” Dixon said. “Her hair was meant to appear as if she just came out of the water. Think Elizabeth Taylor exiting the pool in her jewels.”
The Pam & Tommy actor has been in New York the last few days. She attended the 2022 Prince’s Trust Gala at Cipriani 25 Broadway on April 28, and just the other day posted a video of herself getting a facial, using the Clé De Peau Beauté brightening mask. Celebrity nail artist Betina Goldstein created James’s look, using CND.
