After Emma Chamberlain’s first jaw-dropping Met Gala look in 2021, Gen Z’s it-girl is back to claim her crown. The Louis Vuitton ambassador remained true to her brand at the Met Gala 2022, delivering a full head-to-toe look courtesy of the French legacy house led by Nicolas Ghesquière.
The 20-year-old social media personality wore a two-piece look that played with a number of trendy elements—puffed sleeves, a high neck, and a column skirt that drifts into a train, creating an elegant silhouette. The combination of a long sleeve crop top and dramatic skirt softly echo the Valentino look Zendaya wore to the 2022 Oscars, in March.
In her hair, makeup, and jewels we can see particular attention to the evening’s theme, “Gilded Glamour.” Chamberlain’s eyes are set in pools of gold and copper, courtesy of makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, who used BareMinerals shadow. Her neck is heavy with yellow and white diamonds, that echo the color of her bodice and eye shadow. Her ears sparkle with diamonds in three holes on each ear, and thin silver bands encircle her fingers. Even her hair, which is typically a deep brown, has turned into a cool blonde shade. Hair stylist Laura Polko actually created two braids close to Chamberlain’s scalp and sewed the tiara into place using a needle and thread. She’s gilded, but her Gen Z peers might call her icy.
Chamberlain was not the only person on the red carpet wearing a dramatic headpiece. Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour, topped off her Chanel look with a colorful tiara. Several other guests are wearing headpieces.
Last year, the Chamberlain Coffee founder wore a gold and black Louis Vuitton diamond crop top and asymmetrical skirt set, playing up her youthful vibe with metallic green eyeliner and strappy gold heels. Chamberlain covered the Met Gala red carpet for YouTube and Vogue in 2021 so by all means, this isn’t her first rodeo.
“What I really love about the dress is the daintiness,” Chamberlain explained to PopSugar concerning her dress. “I felt like it would fit my body in a way that was comfortable, but it also just gave me a certain feeling.”
Her boyfriend, Tucker Pillsbury, didn’t make an appearance on the red carpet alongside Chamberlain, even though the two went red-carpet-official a few months earlier at Vanity Fair’s Oscar after-party. This time, Chamberlain chose to wear a simple black gown, also from the mind of Louis Vuitton’s creative director.
