Nearly a year on from the release of , Adele has finally dropped her music video for “I Drink Wine,” and it’s her most fashion-forward visual yet. Depicting the platinum-selling artist floating down a river in an inner tube—glass of rosé in hand—the “overnight water shoot” was directed by Joe Talbot and features the Grammy winner in a sequined Valentino gown weighing a cool 70 pounds.
“[Joe] and I discussed the treatment he created,” stylist Jamie Mizrahi wrote of the look on Instagram, “[and] we went back and forth on ideas for the ‘I Drink Wine’ dress. It was important that the color contrasted perfectly with the water Adele would be floating in the entire video.”

Enter Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, who collaborated with Mizrahi to find the best shade and most flattering silhouette for the inner tube shots. “With a 10-day turnaround, the [Maison Valentino] team delivered us a sparkly, beautifully crafted creation in the exact right shade of green,” she said. “The ideal ‘I Drink Wine’ dress.” Adding yet more sparkle? Lorraine Schwartz earrings shaped like blossoms and encrusted with diamonds.
Perfect as the dress may have been, it presented logistical difficulties during filming—with Mizrahi noting that it had to be blow-dried in between every single take. “The patience, laughter, hysterics, and love that was present throughout this entire process is what I’ll remember forever,” she said.
For her part, Adele posted a string of behind-the-scenes images from the set including one of herself midcackle as she floats downstream and another as she refills her glass. As she told Vogue during her cover interview for the November 2021 issue: “I can handle my wine—I could drink five bottles of wine and have a normal conversation.”
