If you can expect anything from Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet, it’s an spectacular hair moment. That and a great gown, both of which she delivered at the 2022 Oscars.
Let’s talk about the dress first: The actor, who herself nabbed an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014, turned out in a gown laden with golden paillettes and sequins. Tiny beads arranged into what looks like pink flowers add an unexpected layer to the piece, which boasts a plunging open back.
On to the hair: Nyong’o and her go-to stylist Vernon François routinely serve up hair looks that quite frankly look more like works of art than mere hairstyles. This time, François created an updo made of locs, but of course he didn’t stop there. If you take a look at the beehive-esque bun piled atop Nyong’o’s crown, you’ll see that François arranged a few of the locs in what looks like a fishtail braid.
An even closer look at the updo reveals the gorgeous spirals that make up the giant bun. It’s incredibly detailed and not to mention, gorgeous. Nyong’o isn’t up for any awards tonight—she’ll be presenting one instead, but if you ask us, she definitely looks like a winner.
