At the 2022 Grammy Awards, the carpet was red, but the outfits were pink. Celebrities strolled into the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas sporting shades of magenta and pink lemonade, rose and sunset and kitten’s ear. Elle Woods would have looked subtle in this crowd.
Only a week before, red-hot shades dominated the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars. But at the 2022 Grammys, maybe because April screams spring louder than the last week of March, pink was everywhere. Host Trevor Noah wore the palest pink blazer. Laverne Cox showed off pinky-purple hair, as did The Kid Laroi. Male celebrities, in particular, indulged in soft pinks and hot, bright accents. Even Travis Barker, in an iridescent, vibrantly pink overcoat, was not immune to the trend.
Let’s get into the pretty-in-pink (and fuchsia and bubble gum and blush and muted cherry) looks.
Tinashe looked poured into latex in the best way, in a mermaid gown with a defined corset-like bodice and a gigantic butt bow. If you can achieve the shine and gloss of a new off-the-lot car on the red carpet, maybe you should. Just looking at this image, you can hear how squeaky she would sound moving around. It’s still hot.
Justin Bieber wore something that looked dangerously like a pink pussy hat, circa 2017. If it was intentional: Good for him! If not: We’ll take it anyway! Wear a pro-abortion sticker next, Justin! No word yet on whether or not he stayed up last night knitting his own hat and texting his senators.
Wearing Valentino in a nearly identical shade to Bieber’s maybe-pussy hat, Saweetie looked ready for a Legally Blonde remake. Her matching separates—the delicate boob coverlets contrast perfectly with the high-waist floor-length skirt, the sedate bow, and the delicate diamond choker. Just a week ago, Ariana DeBose wore a similar Valentino look in red to win the best supporting actress Oscar. Saweetie’s look, like Porter’s, below, features matching pink gloves that flow beyond her elbows.
St. Vincent, in Gucci, will surely make the 2022 Grammy Awards best dressed lists (and worst dressed lists, if they’re made by haters) for her over-the-top coral gown, trimmed with boas and evocative of Old Vegas glamour. The keyhole cutout! The shimmer! The sleeves that are bigger than some of these other girls’ entire dresses! We love. She instantly won best alternative album for Daddy’s Home, so her night was going altogether fantastic.
Chrissy Teigen, also in a gigantic dress, looked like a can of Skintimate that exploded on an airplane. In a good way! There is a beauty to the ruffled, architectural swirls that a good can of shaving cream can make! And she looks happy. Teigen’s dress, the shade of a watermelon Laffy Taffy, provided a playful contrast to her husband John Legend’s black velvet look.
Billy Porter, who has often opted for luxurious darker colors and heavier fabrics on the red carpet, changed things up for the Grammys with a monochrome Barbie pink Valentino set, including loose pants, a flowing, ruffled top, and elbow-length gloves, contrasted with a purple-blue lipstick. And don’t miss the metallic platform heels. Porter, who played the fairy godmother in the Camila Cabello version of Cinderella, looks splendidly magical here. Points for showing us what many celebs in sheer outfits would not, Billy: nipples.
