Since the dawn of time, or at least the dawn of glossy fashion magazines, Calvin Klein ads have been synonymous with stripped-down sexuality and not-so-subtle boundary pushing.
And the latest incarnation of Calvin Klein ads feels as familiar as an old pair of jeans yet oh-so 2023—in a good way. Think ripped abs and popping quads, only this time on female athletes instead of male pop stars. Alex Morgan and other 2023 Women’s World Cup superstars are the latest celebs to slip into nothing but cotton underwear and denim for their own play on the “Calvins or Nothing” concept.
Other famous footballers featured in the campaign, shot by photographer Brianna Capozzi, include UK star Chloe Kelly, Japan’s Mana Iwabuchi, France’s Kenza Dali, and Mary Fowler of Team Australia. The collection of black-and-white close-up and full-body portraits “highlight each woman in an intimate setting designed to reveal their confidence and sensuality,” in the words of the fashion brand.
The campaign showcases the brand’s new Modern Cotton underwear collection as well as its classic logo tees, denim jackets, and jeans of every vibe, from high-waist to ’90s boot-cut to baggy. There are even soccer socks—which, of course, suddenly look stylish.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup kicked off on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand, and some are predicting that the US Women’s National Team will once again take home the trophy.
